Wide Area Augmentation System / Satellite-Based Augmentation System Capabilities
With the WAAS/SBAS-capable FMS, you have access to all RNAV (GPS) approach types including the most precise and accurate GPS-based approaches available today. With Minimum Descent Altitudes (MDAs) as low as 200-feet with 1/2 mile visibility, this approach type improves safety and accessibility to airports which have much higher minima or no IFR approach at all.
The WAAS/SBAS-FMS meets stringent internal monitoring requirements to provide guidance to any of the MDA levels available for RNAV (GPS) approach guidance:

Lightweight and Compact Recorder
Universal Avionics “CVFDR” includes a line of Cockpit Voice (CVR) and Flight Data (FDR) recorders available in five model options, providing a customized recording solution for your aircraft. The CVFDR offers an independent as well as a combination or “combo” cockpit voice and flight data recording capability, each with an internal Recorder Independent Power Supply (RIPS) option. Weighing less than nine pounds, the lightweight and compact CVFDR is the most advanced and convenient recorder available today.
The CVFDR provides 120 minutes of cockpit voice and ambient audio recording, as well as 120 minutes of data link messaging recording. It records at least twenty-five hours of flight data recording and interfaces with data downloader tools to allow quick download of data from virtually any aircraft between flights. The unit also features an Ethernet interface for on-aircraft data downloading.
The CVFDR was developed in compliance with the newest, most rigorous testing and crash survivability standards stipulated by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other aviation authorities around the world. Operators can now meet all published and emerging regulations for cockpit voice, digital flight data and data link recording with the convenience of a small, lightweight unit.
Universal Avionics Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS), AHS-525 is designed to meet the advanced accuracies required for the next generation flight deck, and seamlessly replaces existing analog directional and vertical gyros. It integrates with flight deck displays, flight control systems, flight management systems, weather radar, terrain awareness and warning system, flight data recorder and a host of additional avionics systems. When interfaced with Universal Avionics’ EFI-890R, data display and control is managed directly through the EFIS, without the need for additional heading control panels that clutter the flight deck.
The AHS-525 provides stable and accurate aircraft analog and digital pitch, roll and heading measurements. The unit is designed with Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS)- based technology, a system that combines the computational ability of microelectronics with the acuity and control of microsensors and microaccelerometers. This solid-state construction, with no internal movable parts, increases unit reliability.
AHRS Attitude Heading Reference System System installation components include the Attitude Heading Reference Unit (AHRU), configuration module to store configuration data and alignment offset values, external remote magnetometer for magnetic heading data, and a precision mounting plate that is permanently affixed to the aircraft. The fixed mounting plate allows the unit to be removed for service and replaced without repeated and timeconsuming realignment of the system. The unit’s compact size lends flexibility to installation, with possible mounting locations in pressurized, non-pressurized, controlled and non-controlled temperature environments.
Multi Function Display
The MFD-640 offers a convenient, versatile and powerful solution for retrofit and forward fit applications alike. You gain the ability to access a wealth of information including Universal’s TAWS Terrain Awareness and Warning System displays in Map, Profile and 3-D views. You can also display weather radar and uplinked weather graphics; information from the Flight Management System, including the flight plan, surrounding navaids, airports and more; monitor VOR bearing and DME distance; and display TCAS and onboard video sources.
Integrated Flight Deck
The InSight display system is designed as an integrated flight deck solution, featuring embedded synthetic vision with advanced mapping capability, electronic charts, radio control and broadcast weather. With fewer required external Line Replaceable Units (LRU) for essential functions than traditional avionics systems, the InSight Integrated Flight Deck means less avionics weight and wiring for your aircraft.
As an integrated system, InSight retains the ability to interface with a large number of federated components such as attitude / heading sensors, air data computers, radars, traffic systems, radios and autopilots.

Terrain Awareness and Warning System
Choose a Class A or Class B TAWS to best meet your requirements. The most advanced display features, available with Universal’s video-capable EFI-890R, MFD-890R, MFD-640 and WAAS/SBAS-FMS 4-inch and 5-inch display units, include dynamic Map, Profile, 3-D Perspective Views and the depiction of obstacles from an optional database. Terrain data can also be presented on other displays including those with ARINC 708 compatibility, as well as Collins Pro Line® and Honeywell Primus® EFIS. Altitude configuration options now include combinations of ADC, GPS and temperature compensated baro-altitude
